Use Cases

Situation

It is difficult to clearly convey one's thoughts to another person. Many times concepts are not obvious to others and details become overlooked. This is as applicable to documenting large government systems as it is to the first draft of a business plan for a start-up website.

Goals

  • increase understanding amongst involved parties
  • improve agreement amongst involved parties
  • document details and direction
  • promote deliberation to reduce rework

Solution

Write Use Cases. When initiating a project, an initial high-level set of use cases may be more important than the business plan.

Outcome

Working as a Lead Technical Analyst for Unisys as a government contractor to rewrite an antiquated monolithic supply chain system, the 3D Blueprinting Approach allowed the appropriate visibility to each strata of the company and shared the necessary detail amongst collaborating departments.

Working with entrepreneurs at the inception phase of their journey, the effort of writing use cases has been a benefit to the business model and a boon to efficiency. The shown sample is from a start-up project that had great potential but lacked the funding to move forth due to the down economy.
